Day 2 – The Jackson River Scenic Trail
Today’s Blog Entry
Cindy and I enjoyed a wonderful 21 mile bicycle ride along the Jackson River Scenic Trail yesterday morning. This rail trail conversion runs from Covington VA north alongside the Jackson all the way to Lake Moomaw.
We started at the Intervale Train Depot trailhead just north of Covington and rode up the valley to the Natural Well trailhead where we turned around for the trip back. We then had a picnic lunch in a park at the river’s edge before heading back to our campground.
The Jackson River was running a bit high and wild due to recent rains so we couldn’t get very close. After checking it out we decided that we’ll need to find other places to chase trout this trip. The good news is that the creek bordering our campground looks to be just about perfect for fishing right now so we’ll try that later in the week. Stay tuned!
