Day 1 – Our Arrival At The Park
Today’s Blog Entry
Our trip started with a two hour drive north from Wintergreen to the campground. The drive was a mix of interstate highway along the floor of the Shenandoah Valley followed by some twisty country highway up through the mountains, so the truck and driver both enjoyed a bit of a workout.
After setting up our campsite we decided to stretch our legs with a three mile round trip hike on the Campground Loop and Overlook Trail to the park’s Visitor Center. From there we hiked down to the river where we picked up the aptly-named River Trail. This flat, easy trail runs the entire length of the park so we followed it back to the campground where we enjoyed a nice dinner and a quiet evening.
