Day 6 – A Rainy Day In Grindelwald
Today’s Blog Entry
Saturday, the sixth and final day of this adventure, was overall very quiet. I think that we both needed a bit of a rest after physically pushing very hard on the Faulhorn hike Monday and the Holenstein hike Friday combined with a long travel day to Zermatt on Wednesday. Our Tuesday and Thursday outings were strategically planned to be a bit easier but even so it felt good to re-charge a bit before the long trip home on Sunday. These one week trips aren’t always the most relaxing given the desire to do as much as you can in a short period of time!
The weather system that had moved into the valley on Friday afternoon and chased us off the trail was still hanging around. It was fully overcast with scattered rain showers in the morning but a second band of lower clouds that obscured our view of the surrounding peaks kept coming and going all day long.
We took an afternoon stroll through the upper section of Grindelwald. This area is much more like a typical Swiss mountain town than the tourist-oriented section found closer to the Bahnhof. One point of interest for us during the walk was accidentally finding the Hotel Gletschergarten. We walked past it and then realized that we’d been there before, most likely for lunch during one of our earlier ski trips to nearby Wengen (1994 and 2001).
After our stroll and of course another excellent dinner prepared by Cindy we re-packed our luggage and tried to put the apartment back into proper shape before our early departure the following morning.
