Day 2 – Munich to Dobbiaco

Today’s Blog Entry

Yesterday was another travel day for Cindy and I. We left our hotel in Munich around 8:00 AM, picked up some travel food from one of the many shops at the Munich Hauptbahnhof (main train station), enjoyed a leisurely latte from Starbucks (yes, they’re everywhere) and boarded our train for a 9:34 AM departure to Italy.

Our train headed south through Bavaria to the Austrian border crossing at Kufstein. We continued south through Austria via Innsbruck and eventually entered Italy via the Brenner Pass.

We continued through northern Italy to Valdaora, where we switched to a tour bus for the remainder of our trip up a nearby mountain valley to Dobbiaco. Ordinarily this last leg would have been via regional train but that particular branch of the rail system was knocked out during the storms that recently devastated much of Venice.

We arrived in Dobbiaco around 3:00 PM and checked into our apartment. We then took a stroll around town and did some grocery shopping. Cindy fixed us a lovely dinner in the apartment and we called it an early night in the hopes of clearing the last of our jet lag before beginning our real adventures tomorrow!
